Conceptualisation / Illustration / Graphic assets

In Mexico, digital violence affects millions of people and still does not receive the seriousness it deserves.

Project illustrations applied to the editorial design of the digital guide, displayed on an iPad against a yellow and black background with colourful decorative elements.

Developed by R3D and Impunidad Cero, the Guide to Defending Against Digital Violence: Civil Law Pathway was created as a tool to support victims of digital violence and legal advisers, with particular attention to women, trans and non-binary people in Mexico.

Illustration of a woman in the centre, with curly hair and tattoos, holding a mobile phone with both hands, covering her face. On either side are two tattooed hands, with their thumb and index finger pressed together and with an open eye in the space between them.
Challenge.

To create illustrations for the guide, both in its editorial version and web tool, that conveyed safety and support, without falling into victimising representations or clichés associated with violence and reporting.

The visual narrative needed to speak of support, solidarity and agency, responding to a complex subject from a clear, dignified and accessible place.

Composition of illustrations: a hand with bracelets, tattoos and long nails holds a mobile phone; a woman with curly hair and tattoos appears alongside a light bulb with an eye in the centre.
Solution.

Bodies and diverse body forms were a central part of the project. Through characters with strength, presence and their own personality, the illustrations help build a close and affirmative visual language, capable of holding difficult subjects with empathy, dignity and the possibility of defence.
